Tomorrow's State of the Union

Hello:

Tomorrow night, the President will deliver the State of the Union Address. There is widespread anticipation, inside government and outside, that he will call for better fuel economy. Herb Kelleher, chairman of Southwest Airlines and a member of the Energy Security Leadership Council (a coalition of 16 business leaders and retired generals) told the Financial Times: "I would like to see the president advocate both for more stringent standards for conservation and for more drilling and production in the US."

We will look for insight on how the President and Congress plan to work together on tax legislation and the impact thereof on domestic securities markets.

This is the time of year when donors can be particularly sensitive to taxes. Perhaps this would be a good time to remind them of some of the tax advantaged benefits of philanthropy.
