Follow the Money
Hello:
Following the path of money around the world can seem as random as following a daily traffic report. Sometimes the traffic slowdown is on the east side of town and sometimes is on the west side. However, over a period of years, some trends become noticeable.
It appears that the oil producing countries are now saving more money than the Asian countries. The oil producing countries, historically, have invested in dollar denominated securities because oil is sold in dollar denominated barrels. Now, a percentage of oil is being sold in euro denominated barrels, and, it appears, that the euro is becoming the currency of choice. It would not surprise us if the Bank of England raised interest rates last week in the hope of attracting some oil money.
We view these changes as indicative of possible money flow from the oil producing countries to the European and British markets this year with the potential of creating renewed strength in the London market and the Continental markets. So we may see very good opportunities in European markets this year.
