Hello:

Summer driving season begins later this month, and coincidentally, our Economic Stimulus Checks (ESC) are slated to arrive at about the same time. How many miles can we drive on $300?

Assuming that the great majority considers $2 per gallon of gasoline as reasonable (leap of logic#1), then the $300 (ESC) could go to the additional $2 per gallon needed to pay for the $4.00 per gallon current cost. This would bring 150 gallons into the range of reasonable. If the average vehicle gets 18 miles per gallon (leap of logic #2), then the distance traveled would calculate to 2700 miles (quiz on Friday!). Now most people like to go on vacation, and then come home, so the real travel distance would be 1350 miles.

Therefore, it appears that the ESC will take us halfway across the country before we need to turnaround and come back. So maybe it is a small escape instead of a great ESC-ape.
